Community building

Thanks to Adam's Curry's April 3 Daily Source Code podcast, I learned about Napervillecommerce.com, an outstanding example of the use of blogging and podcasting to unite a geographic community in Suburban Chicago.

Jeff Nemcher, the producer and host of the site, appears to have just started the venture.  Jeff owns? works for? Van Gogh Communications, so this could be a marketing tool for his business or a revenue generator, I can't tell.  But so far, it's an interesting mix of daily blogging and podcasts featuring interviews with local business folks.  To me it looks like an interactive chamber of commerce combined with a cool local radio show and daily business news updates.  Perhaps Jeff saw an opportunity because the Naperville Chamber didn't jump on it?  That wouldn't surprise me...chambers are notoriously behind trends.

Communities are built through relationships and relationships are built through conversations and shared experiences.  This site appears to be an excellent example of local community building on the web.  Good luck Jeff!
