An oldie, but a goodie

This morning I listened to an outstanding podcast of a panel discussion entitled "We Marketing" at last year's We Media conference.  The panel was moderated by Steve Rubel and included Fernando Espuelas, Chairman & CEO, Voy; John Bell, Senior Vice President & Creative Director, Ogilvy PR; Rich Skrenta, CEO & Founder, Topix.net; and Henry Copeland, Founder, BlogAds.

It was a good 101 on why new marketing is so important, as well as some great examples of companies that are doing it well.

My favorite line from the podcast (and I can't remember who said it, and I'm paraphrasing):

"You can't have a beer with The New York Times or XYZ corporation, but you can have a beer with a blogger," meaning, companies need to understand their customers don't want a relationship with a corporation, they want a relationship with people.  I thought it was a great analogy for the attitude of new marketing.

Do your customers want to have a beer with you?
